I drove from Amarillo, Texas to our place in rural northeast New Mexico yesterday afternoon. Conditions started out completely cloudy, but by the time I was climbing out of the mesalands and back onto the high plains - firmly in the middle of nowhere - the clouds started to break up. Looking back down at the mesalands, I saw the light and shadow creating interesting patterns and giving this scene a depth it usually lacks.
