mechanical electric kalimba progress. I'll likely do a more in-depth "making of" once I get this instrument gig-ready, but pleased with today's lunch hour progress.
first picture shows the amplified tines instrument, with Lego brick pluckers. they were too hard and inflexible, so tried some heat shrink attached to some pegs. still too stiff, I cut them into sort of brushes - they work perfectly. just enough to give a twang but without the harshness.

It's like a marble fountain that makes music. This whole gear system thing pulls up marbles, then drops them on tiles to make the notes and the kick sound. It's absolutely crazy!
