Heute mal ein analoger Samstag mit diesem schönen japanischen E-Bass, ein Daion Power Series Mark X-B aus den 80ern, der nach gründlicher Reinigung, einem kurzen Trip zu thomann für neue Saiten und einigem WD40 gegen den Rost wieder ganz ordentlich klingt...

The conch horn is likely the oldest labrophone or lip-reed #instrument. It's used around the world for communication, timekeeping, #Music and social and religious functions. Only medium to large shells can be played like a horn. Smaller ones can be whistles though. Being a tightly-coiled helix, the internal tube is around 3x the shell's length. I salvaged what's left of an old, upright piano from the desert. While it's been well-gutted, the frame and strings are still intact. It may never be a piano again per se, but it's still a musical instrument capable of producing melody, and deserving of respect. I just couldn't stand the thought of it rotting away in the blistering Mojave sun.

From what I've been able to determine, it was made by M Schultz Co in Chicago circa 1923.

Here are my dimensions for a 4-hole #whistle that plays G pentatonic scale (an “intuitive instrument,” as they say): G, A, B, D, E—and then, an octave higher, G, A, B (and even D, with the finger-holes covered, as the 3rd harmonic). Nice sound, easy to play, not that hard to make.
Bamboo (from a gardening store) with an inner diameter of 12 mm and a wall thickness of 3 mm.

#Study from Sep '25 claims they've proven that #pianists can alter #timber, #brightness, w/ how they play (the #percussion #instrument by pressing keys).
But for all its wordiness, they never describe a single #technique used, they never discuss what they saw w/ all those cameras. They don't say what #music they used or its complexity, how the #listeners heard it (was it #recorded? #live in the room?).
Put simply: I don't believe them (& I'm a pianist).
