McCloud 4x05 "This Must Be the Alamo" review by RikerDonegal
This absolutely brilliant episode - written by Glen Larson - is one of the very best instalments, up there with The Stage Is All the World (1970) and Butch Cassidy Rides Again (1973). Like them, it’s perfect. Broadhurst is left is charge during a heat wave, which has left the entire city in crisis. As the hours go by, things get more and more out of control at the 23rd Precinct but Broadhurst won’t tell Clifford. It’s a story with a lot of moving parts, and a large guest cast: Martin Kove, Sidney Clute, Robert Weaver, Della Reese, Gregory Sierra, Michael Pataki, Eugene Roche, Laraine Stephens, and Van Johnson. There’s a hit-and-run death, an abandoned baby, a power cut, and (in the main storyline) mobsters searching for a little black book with names and details written in it. That little book leads to several murders, including one in a holding cell at the precinct! In the end, a gang lays siege to the building! And only McCloud is free to fight them off. Thrilling stuff. It’s a jam-packed 2 hours. There’s always a development in some storyline or other. There are some genuine twists and several big laughs - mostly from J.D. Cannon and Teri Garr - and the raging gun battle at the end is excellent. Possibly the best episode of McCloud. 10/10

During a heat wave, Chief Clifford is called away and leaves Sgt. Broadhurst in charge. A football gambling ring that scores with ""inside dope on injuries"" loses a little black book and begins eliminating witnesses in a search for it, leading to an assault on precinct headquarters.

McCloud is arrested. In Colorado! This is a very funny episode with a decent storyline. Parts of it - usually the parts with Chief Clifford, who gets a lot of screentime - are hilarious. The only weak spot is the ease with which McCloud and Dewey find the rustlers. Having earlier established that it was large area to cover, they then seemingly drive around a short while until they see a helicopter. Too easy. But it’s otherwise a solid story. Produced and written by Michael Gleason. Good guest cast: John Denver, Claude Akins, Austin Stoker, Vic Tayback, and Farrah Fawcett. 7/10
