You may wonder why is the village full of donkeys?! According to the website: In the #Palatinate there are numerous nicknames for the inhabitants of neighbouring villages - in former times certainly used to annoy the neighbours, today the nicknames are used rather affectionately and even the villagers themselves now seem to wear their nicknames proudly. This is also the case with the Eschbach donkeys!
The name probably goes back to the noble owners of the #Madenburg in the 15th century. The nobles, the so-called "Society with the Donkey", not only used donkeys as farm animals and beasts of burden, but also contested tournaments on donkeys instead of horses. Without further ado, the subjects, the villagers of Eschbach, then became the "donkeys".
