US special envoy voices concerns about unilateral actions in Libya

The US Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland has expressed concern about the recent “unilateral actions” in Libya, especially the Presidential Council’s decision to dismiss the governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) in Tripoli, and the subsequent response by what he called the “eastern Libya camp” to close some oil fields and ports.

The Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, has reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to assisting the Libyan people in their efforts to achieve unity and lasting peace.  This came in a memo issued by the Office of the Spokesperson for the United Nations on Wednesday evening, at the conclusion of DiCarlo’s visit to Libya.
