Some might call 'Reskinned' Larkin Poe’s second album, and you could make that case, but it is really more of a rework of their debut 'Kin' from a couple of years earlier, hence the updated title. It is pretty much the same record at its core, just with a few tracks reworked and a handful swapped out for new ones, if memory serves. It is a solid listen overall, but you can tell they were still finding their sound at this point. There is a bit of a tug of war between a more modern, contemporary rock sound, especially early on, and a lean into their Americana and folk roots as the album goes on. In the end, they sort of hedge their bets and do both, though you can definitely hear the groundwork being laid for what they would eventually become in subsequent years. Good album, no doubt, but they really hit their stride on the ones that came after in my opnion. Nonetheless, they have easily become one of my favourite bands in recent years and I am always eager to get my hands on anything by Larkin Poe! Oh, and as of writing this, it is the album's tenth-year anniversary today!
