Why was I seeing what I can only call advertisement-posts on beige.party, but not on kolektiva.social?

I wasn't following those accounts. The posts weren't boosted at all, as far as I could tell - and certainly not by anyone I follow.

So...can an instance just shove posts into your feed? I thought that your feed is just the posts made or boosted by people you've chosen to follow, right? Mastodon has no algorithms. Does it?

Not a big problem. I blocked the two advertiser accounts as soon as I became aware of them. But it's odd, and that makes me want to know why it happened.

Just a suggestion for all of us in the #USA, but especially those worried about ICE-capades: get printed hard copies of important documents including physical maps, personal documents (ID, birth certificate, social security card, military service documentation, immigration forms, marriage licenses), and important civic documents like the US Constitution.

Apparently mastodon instances can broadcast their own serverwide announcements? In the toooot app its on your profile page. Not sure how to access it everywhere but it is important.

I was curious why all the kolectiva accounts i follow are unreachable on mastodon.art but there was a post that explained the situation from their pov

I dont agree with their decision but the communication helps.
