@decryption “Why would you outsource the most critical part of writing, your intent and your meaning, to a machine, because you think it understands you? The machine will never understand you. It's a goddamn machine, made by humans that hate what you do for a living and wish to commoditise your craft.”

Cost.

For JB, faster time for *product* to market, time is money, more profit. For the type & style of writing this works. Much like commercial art is cost sensitive, JBs commercial writing is not going to be the next PKD novel. Something to read, generate a topical idea or two, old articles becoming #kipple.

This narrative is being played out in all manners of ‘human related work’; Writing, illustration, scripting, translation, software development, administration, etc.. Why? My thesis, the ‘powers that be’¥ are finding ways to reduce the human touch to reduce cost. At the same time reducing head counts. Zero hour workers.

Read through the #Whitecollar tag to get idea of how this reduction of workers is being reported in the press.

This article in the Guardian newspaper caught my eye November last year: “Major investor calls on #Google owner to ‘aggressively’ cut staff and pay” “hedge fund of the billionaire Sir Christopher Hohn has written to Alphabet saying staff at the Google and YouTube parent are paid too much and its workforce should be drastically cut back.” The high Priests of the economy have spoken, the market reacts. Maximalism has its place, and that's as far away from me as possible, or occasionally in homes I like to visit, but could never inhabit without losing my mind.

If a decorating aesthetic is straight from the playbook of a chain family restaurant, I will gleefully shun it.

@kyonshi #Kipple drives out nonkipple.

@cstross

it'll all end in #kipple

@robcornelius Kudos to Canterbury Waterstones for mounting this on the wall in their scifi section!

I re-read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep a while back for the first time in about 30 years.

What struck me this time round wasn't all the stuff about the replicants or the weird religion. It was that what was left of humanity was being buried under tons of #kipple Just stuff that had been made and no one had any use for anymore.

Look around your house. How much kipple is there.

"No one can win against kipple," he said, "except temporarily and maybe in one spot, like in my apartment I've sort of created a stasis between the pressure of kipple and nonkipple, for the time being. But eventually I'll die or go away, and then the kipple will again take over. It's a universal principle operating throughout the universe; the entire universe is moving toward a final state of total, absolute kippleization.”

A quote from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Kipple is useless objects, like junk mail or match folders after you use the last match or gum wrappers or yesterday's homeopape. When nobody's around, k...

I am so proud to launch the 11th issue of THE INDEX, a quarterly letterpress experience dedicated to what PK Dick called "Kipple", the debris which accumulates at the corners of the human. This issue features a new poem by Michael Chang, where each line has been printed as an exclamatory mini-poster. We are also including the title page from FLETCH, printed from the original zinc plate used for the paperback. https://theindexpress.com/issue11/ #poetry #letterpress #kipple #massmarketpaperback #fletch
THE INDEX, vol 2, Issue 11: GROW UP & BLOW AWAY

It’s amazing how much crap you collect just by living in one place for four years straight. It’s all tucked away and forgotten, but it’s always accumulating, lurking. #kipple #moving
