Gorgeous #keris aka #kriss aka #kris. (The name depends on which side of the island of Java.) I am a collector of ethnographic edged weapons. I have around 20 keris in my collection right now. If you want to learn more about keris, here is a link to a section of my website.

Please be gentle when you handle your keris. I believe you have a pretty old and excellent example. The hilt is exceptional in material, shape and carving. The form, signifying a fern in the spring emerging from the forest floor, is quite rare. It is called “ DONORIKO GAYA KEMBANG” and originates from the island of Madura, Indonesia. The floral design is thought to have arisen from Dutch influence in the mid- to late-1800’s. So there is a rough age for the hilt. The blade is very well done also, and is probably much older than the blade. I can’t say much more without more pictures , especially close ups. Thanks for sharing!

The Keris is a distinctive, double-bladed assymetrical stabbing dagger originating in Java. Great role in the culture of the Indonesian Archipelago.
