Reader’s Choice/Tom’s Top Tunes: Song #38/250: Who Let The Dogs Out By Baha Men

"Who Let the Dogs Out" is a song performed by Bahamian #junkanoo band #BahaMen. Originally released by #AnslemDouglas (titled "Doggie"), it was covered by producer Jonathan King who sang it under the name Fat Jakk and his Pack of Pets. He brought the song to the attention of his friend #SteveGreenberg, who then had the Baha Men cover the song. The song, released on 26 July 2000, became the band's first and only hit in the United Kingdom and the United States.

THE annual Junior Junkanoo made its return to Bay Street on Thursday after a two-year hiatus.

Boxing Day isn't a thing in the US, but apparently in Nassau it's like Mardi Gras or Carnival. I think I would trade this for Christmas. I would love to see this in person.

@nadinestorying @BlackMastodon We have this in The Bahamas too! We spell it “Junkanoo”. Growing up, it happened on Boxing Day and New Year’s. But to appeal to tourists year-round, it happens more often these days, mostly behind the walled gardens of mega resorts. Last I heard, they wanted it to coincide/be more of (?) a Carnival thing, which Bahamians did NOT want to do.
