Perhaps as a result of my trouble ticket, #Jiobit put back the previous version of the app in Google Play. I reinstalled. Bluetooth is working ok. In offered to beta test the next release in exchange for free service, and upgrades for fobs or additional fobs. They said they would pass that along to their QA Department.

Somewhere in the depths of the app on my phone, or the software in the #jiobit fob, there's a call to a library to activate Bluetooth. That call is failing.

Someone didn't check the return value from that call.

I'm suspicious of the @jiobit app upgrade from 4 days ago.

Always check the return value. Generate an error for the user.

Make the old version available for a while.

This applies to systems in general.

A rant thread, edited from the rant I posted on the bird site.

@jiobit fob decided it won't Bluetooth to my phone today. Same phone, same fob, as yesterday.

Spent 2 hours doing "hard" resets on the #jiobit fob, which doesn't get it back to the initial state so really isn't a hard reset; reinstalling the app, rebooting phone; fiddling w/ Android permissions; taking fob out of it's home circle; etc.

No luck.

I’m testing pet tracking devices (GPS) for a product review and discovering that our fairly hyper, neurotic 15-year-old male Calico cat (yes, he’s a genetic rarity) travels two miles a day. He touches home base every 30 minutes or so, then shoots off to a different neighbor’s. The mapping pattern looks like a dahlia blossom. He’s only allowed out during daylight hours, but sure gets a lot of mileage. #GPS #pettracker #Jiobit #Tractive #cattracker #calicocat
