Mosaic Records (the premier re-issuer of old jazz classic sets) is now accepting pre-orders for a new 11 CD set of V-Disc (V for Victory) recordings produced between 1942-1949 for the US military.

Since the US govt ordered that all of the masters & stampers be destroyed at the end of the program, Mosaic re-mastered the recordings from available 78s (& in some cases from masters that were saved from destruction).

I just ordered it & haven't heard all of it yet but clips from the set are provided in the link below. Since this music was produced during the hey-day of #SwingJazz (prior to post-war #Bop) that's what you're going to hear on this set but it's music that no one except your parents or grandparents ever got to hear when the music was originally produced & aired.

It was only today I found out why record labels used to package up albums and greatest hits collection on sets of 7" records that often played at 33RPM not 45RPM. There were a couple of commercial jukebox makers who sold jukeboxes that could auto switch their speed based on the record.

Working on post to mark the day in 1962 when Creed Taylor and Rudy Van Gelder recorded Jack Teagarden.

Converting a bunch of old videos from laserdisc. Don't do this much these days, always forget which cables have to be plugged where... But off and running.
