I finally got through scanning all of my 4x5 slides and am now scanning all the Ektar. I actually had forgotten there were some compositions I didn't take on slide, and this one was one of them (I did take this in black and white also though).

One of the black churches in Iceland...in color ;) Shot on Provia on 4x5. I don't recall the lens (I have the notes somewhere) but I do recall I used movements for this one and I really like the results. It's probably impossible to see on a tiny Instagram image but the hills are just a bit out of focus nudging the steeple on the left and the church out into the front. I wanted to make sure the doors were tact sharp (they are). The windows are also quite sharp relative to the subtle blurring of the background.

This one is nice in color but I'm actually looking forward to making a black and white print of these or perhaps one of the other churches. Maybe on some Ilford Art 300. I do like the slide version though. And of course looking at slides in person on a light box is so magical!

Finally got around to scanning more 4x5's from our Iceland trip. Yes this is another waterfall but I do have a church I'm excited about I'll share soon! And it's definitely not a perfect composition. Despite being graced with this amazing experience where the sun popped out and threw these awesome rays down, there wasn't a single composition from this view where I didn't get the ropes in the shot.

I was trying to go fast to not get in people's way and somehow missed the fact that the ropes were very obviously in the shot. I used my 75mm on this one I'm pretty sure and I think that was the right choice but I should have been better at camera placement. The light didn't give me a lot of time either.

Sharing this one because we all make mistakes, they all can't be gems, the world isn't perfect and neither are we. And you know, even though the waterfall is also wildly blown out in this photo because the sun make the falls shine right past the dynamic range of the slide film (Provia), I still like it. I shot this on color negative (Ektar) too and that one might have a bit more detail in the falls though I haven't scanned that one in yet.

Honestly, the light was so good in this one I don't even really hate the ropes all that much and the photo will remind me of one (of many) magical days on a magical trip.

More of that crazy blue water in Iceland. This was at Bruarfoss. I decided to use some of my treasured 4x5 Velvia 50 sheets for this one. It did the scene well I think. Composition is a bit tight but I still like it.

Spent some time organizing my 4x5 color scanning workflow a bit. I shot so many sheets just trying to organize it all has been a bigger thing than I thought. I'm also testing out switching to single sheet PrintFiles rather than the 4-sheet binder sheets. I think it'll make printing and organizing a bit easier. In the interim, I just started numbering the sheets by scan order and once everything is in, I'll spend a day organizing everything properly and will give all the sheets a file number (which then goes into my negative tracking webapp).

Anyways! This is another from Seydisfjordur. Taken on E100. It's taken me a bit to warm up to E100 in slide but I will say it's very neutral and accurate to what the scene was. I'm glad I spent some time learning it while in Iceland.

*Pours one out for Velvia 50*

This one is further down from the main falls. This one was taken on Provia 100.

Scanned using my half glass Epson holder (now available on our store as a beta).

The color (Ektar) version of the waterfall near Seydisfjordur I took on Father's Day during our Iceland trip. There are several gorgeous waterfalls all along the road to the town. This is one of the more well known ones (and I think has it's own name, but I don't recall what it is). I really like how this scanned but I'm very much looking forward to printing it on RA4 in the darkroom.

The sky was pretty much as you see it since fog was sort of rolling in and out. I would have liked to have captured more of that fog or maybe have had some texture in the sky. I've pondered some different aspect ratios as a result but I dunno I do like it as a 4x5, which is how I composed and shot it.

(And yes, scanned using my new Epson V-series 4x5 film holder)

This location was just incredible! I took several photos around here though the compositions were challenging. This exposure was taken on Kodak Ektachrome 100. And, of course, scanned using my new 4x5 Epson scanning holder (which is now available!)

This was one of the very first 4x5 shots I took while in Iceland. It was on the first day after we basically stayed up nearly all night while trying to sleep on the plane. Worth all that! What a gorgeous place!

This is the Velvia 50 version, without a warming filter. As expected, this caused a bit of a shift but I really quite like it.

I also scanned it using my new 4x5 holder for Espon V700-V850 scanners (2nd photo). It's now finally available on our direct store (bitbybitphoto.com)!
