We went to the Poppy and Parliament English pub in Huntsville for some bangers and mash and a Guinness or two. Fun was had by all while we discussed #IEEE student business.

And so it begins. Loading the bus to go to #IEEE #SoutheastCon in Huntsville, Alabama with the #UKY student branch. For a change, I’ll be representing the Lexington Section this year, so I won’t be able to hang out with the students all that much.

Oh god, it's midterm already. Just posted my exams. Timing is good this year, because students can take those while I'm en route to #IEEE #SoutheastCon in Huntsville, AL tomorrow, so we won't miss any class time.

PSA for people doing network #protocol development in 2026: If you bridge your laptop's #Ethernet port for #KVM guests to run in bridge mode, you can't use hardware timestamping directly for time synchronization, unless you run #IEEE #1588 in Annex F (Ethernet) mode. This applies to #chrony, #ptp4l and #ptpd equally. None of them know anything about bridged operation.

It appears that the #Intel #I219V e1000e driver for #Linux now supports #IEEE #1588 #PTPv2 precision timing with hardware #timestamping on the #ThinkPad P14S. I'm still qualifying it against an #I226V based master clock on my #LAN across an #FS #S3900 (non-retiming, no boundary clock) in P2P mode. The master is hosted on #Proxmox 9.1, and has a PCIe serial card ready for a GPSDO. There is also a #SiRFStar IV based USB GPS for it to fix to #utc but sadly it doesn't emit# PPS pulses on DCD.
