James Russel Miller, Presbyterian leader in PA and IL, reflects on Matthew 25:31-46. A claim to love Christ must be shown by love to his friends. Jesus presents himself to us in needy people: “I was hungered, and you gave me meat.”

Miller refers to both Christ’s “friends” and to “every needy person”. One could write a treatise on this. Some might want to limit target of aid, but Miller makes a blur.

John Bunyan, Puritan, on Judgment. One receives from God as one does at the last day (Matthew 25). Every drop, every bit of food, every article of clothing even if a rag, a night on the couch or even on some straw, will be rewarded.

There is beauty here is that God knows and watches and rewards, even if we only have the smallest resources or time to help someone.

How can you offer bits, drops, rags, and wisps?
