James Russel Miller, Presbyterian leader in PA and IL, reflects on Matthew 25:31-46. A claim to love Christ must be shown by love to his friends. Jesus presents himself to us in needy people: “I was hungered, and you gave me meat.”
Miller refers to both Christ’s “friends” and to “every needy person”. One could write a treatise on this. Some might want to limit target of aid, but Miller makes a blur.
How can you show your affection for Christ?
Richard Bernard was an English Puritan. Here he states that those who continue in practice of extortion and eating up people like bread won’t be accepted by God.
Current evangelical culture has a repeated refrain of “you’ll never be accepted by God if you do”. Their pronouncements would seem to omit most of these items.
How can you preserve and promote others’ property, honor, and well-being?
