Il 18 gennaio alle 17.40, quando la valanga che ha provocato 29 vittime aveva già travolto l'hotel Rigopiano, la prefettura di Pescara telefonò all'amministratore dell'albergo Bruno Di Tommaso. L’uomo, che non si trovava nell’albergo e non sapeva ciò che stava accadendo, avrebbe involontariamente convinto le autorità che la situazione era sotto controllo, facendo ritenere inattendibile anche l’allarme successivo di Quintino Marcella, il ristoratore di Silvi Marina al quale nel frattempo aveva chiesto aiuto il superstite Giampiero Parete con una telefonata WhatsApp.
