Still on the shores of lake #Atitlan with enchanted light before sunset. during the day we went to 3 different Maya villages, all of them different. From very touristy, well kept and quite well to do (but brash as a fun fair) , to a busy small town where lack of means and western aspiration collided to a very poor village "favela" style which was living and building with the few things at hand. It illustrated perfectly the problem of tourism as an enabler for people , but destroying history & background and thus alienating the people.

Encore une vue de l'#hotelAtitlan avec la lumière féerique de la fin de la journée. Dans la journée nous avions visité 3 villages Maya tous différents: un pomponné et voyant façon foire au trône pour les touristes, une petite ville affairée qui jonglait avec ses aspirations occidentales et la réalité bien plus pauvre et enfin un village très pauvre façon "favela" où les villageois font et construisent avec le peu de moyens disponibles. C'était un excellent exemple pour le rôle ambiguë du tourisme: d'un côté il enrichi les populations et facilite leur vie, de l'autre il détruit l'histoire et les valeurs locales et désempare le gens.

La deuxième étape au #Guatemala le lac d' #Atitlan, un très grand lac volcanique entouré de caldeiras et d'autres volcans. Des ambiances lumineuses féeriques en début et fin de journée et un ciel dramatique entre brumes, et nuages d'orage tropicaux. L'#hotelAtitlan est à la hauteur, avec un jardin façon "botanique", une vue imprenable sur le paysage , une décoration faite par les artisans locaux et un service hors repaire! Le luxe rare et en contraste fort avec la pauvreté de la population aux environs.

Our second stop in Guatemala on the shores of lake #Atitlan, a large volcanic lake framed by caldeiras and volcanos. The enchanting light and dramatic skies in the morning and afternoon changed from hazy filtered to dramatic tropical thunderstormy clouds. The #hotelAtitlan was as enchanted : aperfect botanical garden, interiors done by local artisans, local and healthy cuisine and an impeccable old style service. Rare old world luxury contrasting starkly with the poor population.
