Bruce Horak, the virtuoso legally blind actor, is leading a new Historical Canada Canadian Heritage Minute about the establishment of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).

These short heritage dramatizations have been an institution since the 1980s and a couple of new ones continue to be added to the collection each year.

Horak best known onscreen for his main cast role as the Aenar Chief Engineer Hemmer in season one of Star Trek - Strange New Worlds. In addition to acting, Horak is a visual artist whose work shows his perspective from his limited ~10% vision in one eye.

CBC feature with short interview with Horak.

Calgary actor stars in new Heritage Minute about CNIB co-founder Edwin Baker | CBC News

Local actor Bruce Horak plays Edwin Baker, who co-founded the Canadian National Institute for the Blind after he was blinded as a soldier in World War I.

This evening in my course seminar, my professor introduced me to Heritage Minutes, a collection of bilingual Canadian 60-second short films, each depicting a significant person, event or story in Canadian history.

The first one came out in the 90s and apparently they are a staple of Canadian culture.

I absolutely love this idea. Mini public information history films! And each one is so entertaining! That's my weekend sorted: popcorn, a glass of wine and bitesize Canadian history!

Any Canadians here remember watching these?
