#learningJapanese has given me opinions on #hanunification the thing where they merge the different looking local variants of the same Chinese characters into the same code point.

Specifically, I am against it! If the squiggles look different, the computer should treat them as different squiggles!

I seriously think partly unifying the Latin, Greek and Cyrillic alphabets (where they have identical looking characters) would make more sense than Han Unification did.
