So, I didn't win the Hackaday Prize. Which is a little sad, but honestly, it would have been utterly insane if I had (the grand winner was an awesome braille display that could really help people in the world. Which is more awesome and cyberpunk than anything I could do).

I'm still amazed and honoured that my little cyberdeck made it to the finals at all! :)

Congrats to @joeycastillo on his "Open Book" open hardware reading device becoming a finalist in the 2023 Hackaday Prize!

He was so kind at last year's Supercon in handing out free kits of this board and running a small impromptu assembly party! Such a fun memory sitting in a little sewing circle, with friends and strangers, laughing and soldering together on the Supplyframe floor. Wish I'd taken photos.

Hackaday Prize 2023: The Wildcard Finalists Are Here

We’re in the endgame now — there’s just about a month to go before the final results are announced for the 2023 Hackaday Prize, which means all of our finalists are in a mad rush …

Having to listen to my own voice long enough to put this video together was hell. But it's done!

This is my entry video for Jumperless into the 2023 #HackadayPrize

Solar Scare Mosquito 2.0

Mosquitoes are a highly invasive species which pose one of humanity's greatest challenges. Mosquito-borne epidemics infect over 600 million people annually. This solar-powered device eliminates mosquito larvae in stagnant water bodies such as water tanks and swamps. The system allows mosquitoes to lay eggs at dawn and dusk and the intermittent ripples during the day prevent larvae from breathing at the surface. In addition, a built-in microphone captures the wing-beat frequencies of mosquitoes that are naturally attracted to standing water, helping us to identify the species and sex of the mosquito. With a network of these connected devices installed among at-risk populations, we will obtain a real-time estimate of the presence of dangerous mosquitoes. Using this data, we will create the early warning system for all mosquito-borne epidemics. This project was endorsed by Bill Gates on social media in 2014, and we have come a long way from there!

We' just submitted #Rosalind to the hackaday prize. If you have an account, like us there.
