New studies show that choosing a productive group of animals leads to better results than picking one strong leader. In hen farming, group selection stopped aggression and increased egg production significantly compared to individual selection.

Why evolution favors group cooperation over individual fighting to help species survive

Why does nature choose groups that work together? New research shows that cooperation leads to better survival and more food than individual strength.

Quite the opening sentence to the Discussion of this paper:-

"Repeated interactions alone cannot explain the evolution of one-shot cooperation because they cannot explain the evolution of repeated cooperation."

Super-additive cooperation - Nature

Models show that human cooperation cannot evolve reliably under repeated interactions or under intergroup competitions, but combining the two mechanisms predicts a distinctive strategy, observed experimentally in Papua New Guinea, in which individuals exhibit cooperative reciprocity with ingroup partners and uncooperative reciprocity with outgroup partners.

Someone pointed out that group punishment is a war crime. I think that's the clearest way to help people think about it: don't punish a whole group for the actions of some members of that group. Treat people as individuals as much as possible.

The fact that it's difficult for us to separate trees from the forest suggests to me that seeing groups is a critical part of our psychology. Achieving both justice & peace requires seeing all humans as a single, inclusive group.
