Hey people — quick follow-up to the earlier announcement. Oscilla v0.4.2_beta is out with the first standalone binaries.
The Linux build has been tested on Debian, but I’d really appreciate testing on macOS, Windows, or other Linux distros.
A quick “works / doesn’t work” is perfect — and if it doesn’t work, any error message or screenshot helps a lot. Thanks!

Anyone here interested in #graphicnotation #musiccomposition #improvisation #electronicmusic?
I’ve been working on Oscilla, a new free and open-source software for creating and performing animated, cue-based graphic scores.
I’ll soon be looking for people to test, experiment, and give feedback.
Standalone binaries are coming for easy install, or you can run it via Node/npm from source.

The latest issue of Improvised Music - Open Scores journal is now available online. It again focuses strongly on graphic notation and, as usual, contains both essays and pieces themselves:

📣 New article: ✍️ Reading music notation beyond style
Western common practice notation takes years to learn and is best suited to music of the past. Could that be a reason why most people who play music today don't read any notation at all? https://www.soundingfuture.com/en/article/reading-music-notation-beyond-style

P.S.: if you're interested in #GraphicNotation, the @wikipedia entry will give you lots of entry points!
Full day today lecturing on Zoom (didn’t go in due to the train strikes/no strikes + broken ankle - couldn’t cope with the uncertainty).
But fun material: composing music for moving image, graphic notation, microsound and broken beats (different lectures/tutorials).
Here’s a score we checked out together, John Cage’s Cartridge Music:
