- Such a week.
- Tanuki, it was just the weekend
John Cunningham Geikie, Presbyterian missionary, writes on women who oppressed the poor in Amos: the “kine”, or cows, of Bashan. Greedy for drink and luxury, they used tricks to get more money. Corrupt judges handed over honest men to debt slavery, even for a kickback as small as the price of shoes. The miserable even prevented from covering self in dust.
Is anything like that happening today?
Do your sensualities drive exorbitant spending?
Alexander Duff, missionary of the Church of Scotland, discusses setting up a new mission. They’re choosing at site that would help “the suppression of the slave trade.”
He’s not setting up a fort or a fence. A station for the preaching the gospel. And he hopes it would suppress slavery. Yet I keep hearing people say that missionaries were all about killing.
Would the preachers’ books you buy suppress slavers or empower them?
