GEEKOM A9 Max Review: Mini PC with AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370

Last summer GEEKOM released a pair of mini PCs with the latest Intel and AMD processors: the GEEKOM IT15 with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H Arrow Lake processor and the GEEKOM A9 Max with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Strix Point processor.

When I reviewed the Intel model, I noted that the mini PC’s cooling system wasn’t up to the task of allowing the powerful processor to live up to its potential, so […]

GEEKOM A9 Max with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Strix Point sells for $999

GEEKOM has put the A9 Max up for sale for $999. The AMD Ryzen AI9 HX 370-powered mini PC is shipping from a U.S. warehouse and arriving within 2 to 5 days.

The A9 Max was announced back in January at CES. Nothing appears to have changed since then in terms of the system’s hardware.

It’s powered by AMD’s popular 12-core / 24-thread processor that features the 50 TOPS XDNA 2 neural engine. The […]

GEEKOM A9 Max is mini PC with up to a Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 Strix Point processor

GEEKOM is the latest company to introduce a mini PC powered by an AMD Strix Point processor that combines Zen 5 CPU cores with RDNA 3.5 graphics.

The new GEEKOM A9 Max joins a small, but growing crowd of Strix Point mini PCs that also includes the AOOSTAR GEM10 370, Beelink SER9, MINISFORUM EliteMini AI370, and GMK EVO-X1 HX 370.

GEEKOM’s mini PC measures 135 x 132 x 47mm (5.3″ x 5.2″ x 1.9″) and features support for up to 64GB of dual-channel DDR5-5600 memory, up to two PCIe Gen 4×4 SSDs (one M.22 280 and one M.2 223), and two processor options:

The computer also has a robust set of ports including:

  • 1 x USB4 Type-C (with DisplayPort 1.4 Alt Mode)
  • 1 x USB4 Type-C (with USB-PD power input)
  • 5 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • 2 x HDMI 2.0
  • 2 x 2.5 GbE LAN
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x SD card reader

The system features support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 and ships with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed.

Unfortunately the spec sheet released ahead of CES 2025 includes a few errors, which makes it hard to verify some claims. For example, it says the system has an NPU with up to 55 TOPS of performance, but that’s not true of either of the processor options listed. It describes the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 as a 10-core, 20-thread chip, while it’s actually a 12-core, 24-thread chip. And it also describes these as Ryzen 9000 Series processors, which is not how AMD brands these particular chips.

GEEKOM’s 2025 mini PC lineup includes Intel Arrow Lake, AMD Strix Point, and Qualcomm Snapdragon X models

Taiwanese mini PC maker GEEKOM has confirmed earlier reports that it working on one of the first small form factor desktop computers powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X chip. It’s one of several new mini PCs that the company says it’ll be showing off at CES 2025 in January.

Other models include the first GEEKOM device with an AMD Strix Point processor, and a new model supporting up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor (which Intel hasn’t officially announced yet).

The GEEKOM IT15 will be the company’s new Intel-powered model, featuring dual-channel DDR5-5600 memory, support for up to two SSDs, up to four displays, and “a fast SD card reader.” With support for up to a Core Ultra 9 285H processor, this mini PC is expected to feature a 45-watt mobile processor that’s part of the same family as Intel’s Arrow Lake chips that first launched a few months ago for larger, higher-power desktops.

We’ll likely have to wait for an official announcement from Intel before we know how these chips compare with the Alder Lake-S processors for higher-performance systems and Intel’s Core Ultra 200V Lunar Lake chips with on-chip memory and high-performance integrated graphics.

Meanwhile the GEEKOM A9 Max is a mini PC featuring an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 375 Strix Point processor with 12 CPU cores and 24-threads (4 x Zen 5 and 8 x Zen 5c) and Radeon 890M integrated graphics (16 x RDNA 3.5 GPU cores) and a Ryzen AI NPU with up to 50 TOPS of AI performance.

And, as expected, the GEEKOM QS1 mini PC features a Qualcomm Snapdragon X1E-80-100 processor with 12 Oryon CPU cores at up to 4 GHz, Adreno X1-85 graphics, and a 45 TOPS NPU.
