For the other amateur #FursuitMaker s out there, the reason I am #painting over the #CraftFoam with weatherproof #acrylic is to get it a hard, durable, and potentially shiny surface. The craft foam brushes are nice because I don't need to worry about cleaning them (this stuff isn't meant to wash out) and they have a soft yet sharp back edge that I can use to smooth the surfaces after I've spread it around with the scissor-cut bristles.

For the nose and lips, I did a single coat of black to give the flesh a shine. For my #FursuitEyes, I'm doing one coat of black on the back of both parts (it helps with vision), one coat of red on the front of the iris, and two coats of smoothed out white on the scalera. The idea is to give them both a more vibrant shade of white, a more textured red, and make it all shinier and more durable under use.

Once it dries, I am going to use a hair dryer to heat cure it, then hot glue it together from the back.

@CavramCreations
Wanted to get back to you on this, having finally printed my toon-eye eye-sockets and gotten comfortable with the eyes...

I made paper ovals that were bigger than the socket, used a stencil I had 3D printed (after using it as a mock-up in Blender) to make the irises, cut out the pupils, then taped them into various positions in the back of the eye until I came up with a configuration that I liked. You want to cut out the pupils for this so you can try it on and see what things look like.

What I came up with, which I think is going to be the norm, is that the irises are about as large as I can get away with making them, the pupils are a little more than half their diameter, and they are somewhere between the center and the inner edge of the eye space.

Hope that helps someone...

I'm trying to paint some eyes for a fursuit head... I don't know how big to make the pupils... could someone please advise?
