I realised that I unintentionally reached a macabre milestone just for the Halloween season: I have donated enough blood in Ireland to have died if I were to lose it all at once (three liters).

As a guy who has been donating blood since 18 but only recently moved to Ireland, here's what I have to say about IBTS:
1. There's not enough blood and there are not enough donors in Ireland — IBTS needs us!
2. There is no need to "register your interest" on giveblood.ie and wait for them to contact you. If there's a clinic in your area, just give them a call and schedule an appointment.
3. If you have never donated blood before, it's not nearly as scary as it looks, and it doesn't hurt more than a blood test. Most people also don't faint or anything.
4. There are tea, coffee, and a nice selection of snacks for donors!
