Brigade 444, affiliated with the Libyan Army Chief of Staff, announced on Monday that it had thwarted the smuggling of 40,000 liters of fuel in the middle of the Libyan desert. in a post on its Facebook page, it explained that its members pursued fuel smugglers through desert paths, and were able to thwart several attempts to evade them, and a truck loaded with more than 40,000 liters of fuel prepared for smuggling was seized.

Minister of Interior Emad Trabulsi has pledged to prevent issuance of permits to establish new fuel stations, and to follow up on stations involved in smuggling and close them down. In a press conference, Friday, Trabulsi stressed the magnitude of the smuggling problem, noting that "the amount of smuggled fuel is very large and there are countries neighboring Libya that rely on smuggled Libyan fuel."
