Second stop for Bill Frisell Quartet with Greg Tardy, Gerald Clayton and Johnathan Blake. This happened to be my #frisell.100 (!!!).

No-bass lightness, serious 4-man exploring, Bill giving lots of room to the other soloists and they made the most of it, creating their own Frisellian soundscapes. What a dream!

The list of artists I've seen 100+ times is an exclusive one and they're all special to me, but none quite as special as Bill Frisell. Welcome to the club, BF.

How lucky am I?

Next: Bill Frisell and Mary Halvorson have quite different styles on the guitar, but there is some overlap and this duo set at Roulette was quite cozy in that overlap. Good Lord, this was so good. Lovely interplay and next-level beauty with a dash of experimental. Their take on the longtime Frisell repertoire "Shenandoah" was two-guitar perfection. Don't think that set will be topped this weekend. Early afternoon bliss.

#johnzorn
