Here’s what it lacks… Weekly Recap 11/17/2025
Today’s prompt question asks for my favorite place in our city… and I’m just reminded of all the things that this city actually lacks.
There’s no music venues. There’s no art. There’s really no culture of any kind.
And if those things did exist here, they would probably be “taxed” by setting fees so high that most people wouldn’t be able to enjoy them anyway.
What we do have here in abundance, however, is people who care about golfing. Oh, and high-priced retail stores.

It was a pretty busy week and a non-stop weekend, but some cool stuff happened.
Was anyone able to see the Northern Lights? Here’s the picture I took…
Yeah, we definitely could not see them. Oh well.
I returned to the forge and continued working on my knife. My goal was to extend the handle and then start working on the blade section.
I made the handle just a smidge too fat, so I might have to take a little bit of the belly off with a grinder later.
I wasn’t really certain why I was making this — aside from the fact that it’s a learning experience — but it just occurred to me that I could put white scales on the sides and then turn it into a boline once it’s all said and done… and then I’ll have hand-forged a magickal tool.
I know it doesn’t look like much yet… but it is slowly starting to become more knife shaped!
On Friday night, Selene and I went out and got some sushi. We had such great sushi in New York… now we’ve been searching for something local that’s on the same level.
And we also had a little dessert!
It was good, but I think we can probably find better.
Over the weekend, our coven got together and made tamales. Like hundreds of tamales. Maybe even thousands.
Okay, no… not thousands. But lots. And they’re delicious. We’ll certainly be eating tamales for days.
In slightly more mundane news, I’m pleased to announce that Coke has a new Holiday Creamy Vanilla flavor and it’s absolutely delicious.
Selene and I are also trying to do a re-watch of Stranger Things before the new season drops. Let’s see if we finish in time!
Well, I have a book to get back to finishing, so just this short update for today. Stay tuned for more soon!

What’s the best flavor? Weekly Recap 10/20/2025
Although I haven’t made one in quite a long while, I’m pretty good at baking cheesecakes.
And cheesecake also happens to be one of my favorite desserts.
My question to you today is this: if you had to pick one flavor of cheesecake to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Personally, I’m usually happy with something fruity. I’d probably pick a raspberry cheesecake. But since we’re in the middle of Fall, I’m kind of hoping to find a slice of pumpkin cheesecake somewhere soon!

It’s an interesting morning for many people today, as Amazon has brought much of the world to a screeching halt. WordPress and my personal website seem to be working, but all of my school stuff is offline. Maybe you get this email, maybe you don’t! And if you’re bored at work with a non-responsive system, feel free to click through my archive to pass the time.
Me? I woke up, walked outside, and was greeted by one cat, four ducks, and two squirrels.
That’s not our cat — it’s a neighborhood cat. I gave everyone a little bit of food (lest they decide that one of the others was food). The squirrels opted to not pose for the picture.
Closer and closer to the goal:
This week was filled with incense. I made a new batch of ritual incense and shipped a few Kyphi orders.
Our Kyphi stock is starting to dwindle, so we obtained some resins to start a new batch soon.
Botanica Obscura recently made workshop selections for the upcoming conference in March. The website isn’t completely updated with all the classes yet, but I’ll give you a teaser: Have you ever wondered about the connection between music and plants? (I mean, I know you have, right?)
I’ll be talking about some of that in my workshop!
On Saturday, I returned to the forge. My intention was to make a knife, but my intention was also to do whatever was suggested as the best next thing to learn.
Well, they told me to make a knife — not an athame-style knife (I guess I’ll work up to that), but a simple, single-sided blade.
I was given a rectangular piece of steel attached to length of rebar (as a temporary handle)… as well as this visual guide depicting the major steps of the process.
Here’s my metal in the fire…
It’s amazing how much force is required to shape steel. I was literally hitting this thing with a sledgehammer at one point… and it barely moves.
Anyway, I think I got somewhere close to “Step 3” (if you’re counting from right to left on the visual guide above).
I might be able to finish the rough outline next month. I suspect that attaching a handle will also be a very lengthy process, so I have no idea what to expect for an overall completion date at this point. Either way, I’ll keep you posted!
I encountered this robot named Tilly while Selene and I were grocery shopping. She beeped at me a few times, then slowly navigated around me.
Sorry, no pictures of food this week. On Saturday, Selene and I skipped out for a quick coffee date, but I didn’t take any pictures of the snacks we had. In honor of the spookiest month of the year, we gave a watch (or maybe sort of a re-watch) to Hannibal. I think it was my first time actually watching the movie all of the way through. Very recently, we also watched The Conjuring: Last Rites. It wasn’t bad. It also wasn’t good. Any other suggestions for scary movies to watch this month?
Oh, and if you were curious, I passed my recent final exam and finished the class with 102%.
I think that’s all for now. I hope to have a new episode of M3 out in the very near future. Until then, stay tuned for more soon!
