By the 18th century at the latest, iron ore from the region – primarily from #Adorf – was being smelted here.
By the time construction of the #Edersee dam began in 1909, this #ironworks was already in #ruins and was submerged when the #reservoir was filled.
When the Edersee lake runs dry, these ruins appear.

schneckenhausHunedoara liegt im Westen Siebenbürgens und ist historisch stark vom Bergbau und der Industrie geprägt. Ich erlebe die Stadt heute ruhig, fast verschlafen und bin fasziniert vom Kontrast zwischen verfallener Industriegeschichte und restaurierter mittelalterlicher Architektur während ich Ende Mai die blühenden Bäume bewundere.
