Sketchbook Revival is coming up (April 11-21 2026, https://karenabend.com), and the first tutorial they had was making your own sketchbook with "Australian Piano Hinge" binding taught by Sarah Matthews (https://iamsarahmatthews.com).
I've never tried this binding before! Lays very flat and pages are removable!

I'm not a fan of the loose ends in my hand-stitched book signatures, but since they're there I've embraced them by making them longer & attaching these little tea tag fortunes. Each one is a tiny collage I made from a Yogi tea tag layered with bits of tissue paper, mulberry paper, stained tea bag paper, and my own drawings. The bottom row shows the reverse sides of the ones directly above. Also? Let it never be said I don't have a sense of humor. 😜
A handful of last autumn's handmade journals are still available and -5% until the end of the day 🍃

Update! It's all done~ I may not be happy with the book block entirely, but wow I did so well with the elastic, and I love the colours too 👀
It's rather difficult to bind the book this way too, the covers aren't really well aligned. Next time when I do something similar it will be with coptic stitch with a new tool I'll be getting (excited!), which should align the covers a lot better.
