Those are the same book blocks.
Exactly the same paper, same number of signatures (folded papers), same binding techniques.

Only difference is the cover. The red on the left is double paper glued together. The blue book on the right is a hardcover with cardboard laminated with paste paper.

They behave so differently.
Because I did the red one first and the book block spread so wide I made the cardboard spine of the blue book a little wider. Turns out, way too wide.
Another lesson learned.

Last night, I made my first ever booklet for ink swatching fountain pen ink. Came out to 23 pages of Sanzen Tomoe River 52gsm paper. Used a saddle stitch (staple) binding. Couldn't be happier with the result! I'd like to do more of these over time with all the loose leaf I've acquired for ink swatching.

Found this beautiful grass paper today in a pound shop. Will make excellent endpapers (if it can handle the glue)

Also made a hard leather cover for my tablet today. It wraps around and snaps closed with magnets. There was no stitching because I used bookbinding techniques. Thinking of embossing the cover like a book because the exterior is kind of plain but the interior "end paper" is made from a nice green and black plaid fabric I made into book cloth using mulberry paper. #LeatherCraft #BookBinding #maker

And lastly, a soft cover notebook. I'm no good at painting, so all I painted was a simple pattern. Regardless, I loved how this turned out too. It's my second book that I've bound so far, and I already have quite a few bookbinding projects planned!

(Also, most of my Christmas presents to others turned out blue-ish just out of coincidence 😂)
