Nevada County Wildfire & Heatwave Preparedness: What’s Being Done and How You Can Get Ready

Summer might be winding down, but in Nevada County the risk of wildfire is still running high. The heat hasn’t loosened its grip, and with vegetation as dry as kindling, the danger lingers long aft…

Blustery, rainy day on Keystone Ridge with 0.33” of rain since morning. Got the tractor setup to chip/shred the slash we generate cutting and thinning our black spruce. Lots of good growth this summer on the transplanted Larch starts we brought in. #MyAlaskaWx #Firewise
A good season of growth for ~8-10 Larch trees we have transplanted around the house to replace hazardous black spruce. (There are so many variations on Larax I can’t distinguish species). Per DNR/Community Forestry Larch are fire resistant natives. https://forestry.alaska.gov/Assets/pdfs/community/publications/05FireResistVeg.pdf #Firewise
Hi people, did you order your air filters yet? Get them, you will need them this year. Also look up Firewise landscaping and house fire prevention tips. There are many, many, many things you can do to protect your home and property. Plz do not just leave it to the agencies, when they are overwhelmed they focus resources on the high priorities and this is why an eastern WA town burned off the map two years ago. Be proactive. #Firewise #FireSeason
As always have a fire evacuation plan and if that includes using an RV/trailer make sure to do the season readiness checklist so it is ready to drive safely if you need to go on short notice. This year we will not have twitter to count on coordinating wildfire info/animal evac options, etc. Be extra prepared. #firewise #wildfireprep
Also if you don't have indoor air filters, now is a very good time to get some. If you wait until fire impacts your AQ they may not be available. Once smoke is pervasive, driving out may be dangerous due to low visibility; this happened in 2021. #firewise #wildfireprep
As Alberta's fires burn, plz remember our own fire season will feature extra fuels thanks to a wet winter/spring and they're drying out early thanks to the PNW heatwave. Review firewise landscape guidelines, get things in order, and this may be a good year to remove anything flammable near the house (like juniper). #firewise #wildfireprep #pnwheatwave
