A big benefit of all the understory clearing we've been doing on the land as part of our #Firescaping efforts is that native plants I've never seen before are coming back to the property.

This is apparently a Butterfly Mariposa Lily native to the Los Padres.

I love love love #LasPiltas #nativeplants nursery for having done field research of seeing how long it takes for a propane torch to light a plant on fire:

I wish they'd do a round two with non-native plants, but I guess that's not their stock.

Generally, unwatered natives do better than watered non-natives.

Ignition time of leaves of some California native plants and garden plants. Native plant flammability.

Personally, I'd like to know what material I can use for fencing/patio that would look natural and still be fireproof. Because the fence up to the house? Like putting a pile of firewood under the eaves, which you definitely don't want to do. I don't even want to think about my open wood porch. I love the moss growing on it, but that's also not good for the wood long term. Someday I'll be replacing it. #firescaping
