As all the drawing is done in code it can be a bit of a faff to get right - and involve a lot of debug lines in magenta with #ff00ff - but there is eventually a pay off over maintain a bunch of pre-rendered sprites, at least as a solo dev.

If I was better at drawing sprites, I feel like detailed SVGs rendered to bitmaps with dynamic options toggled on and off and dynamic color / pattern fills applied would be the best of both worlds though.
