I've been on mastodon for a few months now and at first I was disappointed about how the platform lacked features that other social media had. It doesn't have the widespread adoption that facebook and instagram have. Its shortform media isn't as attention grabbing.
Now, I'm beginning to understand that this is the point of mastodon. Engagement on mastodon has different rules. It's a bit more effortful. It is actually the greatest aspect of mastodon I think.
#FreeTube used to have a bug where videos would start playing automatically, despite the setting saying otherwise.
The latest version appears to have fixed this, but now I find myself being annoyed that I have to manually click Play each time...
Maybe I'll have to toggle the setting to revert the fix.
45/musk have hired for loyalty above ability. Staff for autocrats is typically incompetent for 2 main reasons: 1) hired for loyalty alone, 2) competent people might be a genuine threat to the autocrat’s continued maintenance of power, and so incompetence is preferred to help the autocrat have less chance of losing control.
It’s part of why russia was going to take 3 days to take Ukraine and still hasn’t >3 years later. Autocrats staff badly.

All this, especially about how the networks jumped to give Trump more than an hour live and then did not cover VP Harris (which they knew in advance had been scheduled). They did this exactly with Hillary Clinton, Trump would throw something last minute to disrupt her coverage and the #media jumped each time. #MediaFail #FeatureNotABug #Cowards
