‘anyone who thought otherwise is, frankly, a fat fuck’. And the comments to my reply are worse. Here’s the thing: Punching down on fat people isn’t funny - it’s hurting a marginalised group. There are a myriad of reasons why people are fat, and in the vast majority of cases, it has nothing to do with being a lazy ‘fat fuck’ who can’t be arsed cooking or going out to get food. Rather, it involves complex issues such as socioeconomic status, food availability (and deserts), chronic illness and disability, mental illness, iatrogenic medicine (eg many medications esp for mental illness cause weight gain), racism, and other intersecting factors. @betootaadvocate can and should be better than this.
