Sony Files New PlayStation Videogame Trademark For “Break In”
UPDATE: Numerous social media accounts such as X, Youtube, Instagram and Reddit have now also begun popping up using the same name.
Back in April, Insider Gaming posted some gameplay details about Fairgames, and reported that one of the game modes is titled “Break In”
ORIGINAL STORY: Just a few weeks away from its recently announced 60+ minute State of Play, Sony has registered a new videogame trademark. Is it a new game, or a rebranding of one of its existing live-service projects?
The trademarks are visible on both European and US sites, and are listed as being for a videogame called “Break In”.
Obviously, the initial thought was that this is a new game from PlayStation, but there is also a possibility it’s an existing project getting renamed.
On the European site, the secondary language is listed as French. When you couple that with the name “Break In”, there’s a chance this is the new name for Fairgames, the live-service project from Montreal-based developer Haven. The game is built around the idea of heists, so having Break In as the title would fit.
So far, everything we’ve heard behind the scenes about Fairgames indicates it isn’t going well. A name change might be a way for Sony to give it a fresh start when they show it off at the upcoming State of Play.
Not that I think it’ll help. The Internet seemed supremely unimpressed with Fairgames when it debuted, so unless Haven have completely rebuilt the game from the ground up I doubt it’s going to get a better reception, regardless of the name.
On the other hand, maybe this is a completely new project from Sony. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

- The market is already saturated
- The costs to break through is high
- The long-term maintenance is taxing
- The chances of success slim by the day
- The playerbase can by swayed away.
I believe #Fairgames and #HorizonMMO are going to be the last high productions.

Haven Studios' PS5 live service game Fairgames faced criticism during pre-alpha testing, extending negative feedback since its 2023 reveal.

Closed tests flopped: shooter Fairgames from Haven, per insider Tom Henderson, left internal testers calling it BORING and unfinished.
The visual style was watered down from the flashy reveal; testers slam the class system, movement and AI. Even the new Cargo Heist extraction-style mode failed to excite, infinite respawns stripped away tension and the genre's thrill.
