From setback to startup: Swansea woman builds events business with expert backing
After losing her job in 2024, Obaidah Sbeitan returned to university to study for a master’s in marketing, determined to reshape her future. Inspired by her passion for events and branding, she founded Beseen Events and Marketing, a consultancy now gaining traction across Swansea and South West Wales.
Her journey reflects a wider trend: recent research shows that 75% of Swansea residents have considered starting their own business, placing the city third in the UK for aspiring entrepreneurs — behind only Nottingham and Birmingham. 📎 Read our full report on Swansea’s startup spirit
Obaidah credits Business Wales adviser Hadi Brooks for helping her transform her vision into a viable business. Together, they developed a plan rooted in financial forecasting, sustainable growth, and inclusive workplace values, aligning with Business Wales’ Green Growth and Equity pledges.
“I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur,” said Obaidah. “It’s been my dream, but I put it on hold to focus on being a mum. After going back to university, I realised how much I loved combining events and marketing. That’s when I knew I had to make it happen — but I wasn’t quite sure where to begin.”

Since launching less than a year ago, Beseen has built a strong client base and is now planning major events in Swansea, including a Mardi Gras-style Halloween parade in 2026. Obaidah is also exploring funding options to expand her team and meet growing demand.
“Hadi’s guidance has been immeasurable,” she added. “She helped me narrow down my ideas and build the company I’d pictured for years. I wouldn’t be in the position I am now without her support.”
Business Wales adviser Hadi Brooks said: “Obaidah’s talent was clear from our first conversation. All she needed was the right support to turn her experience into a business. With the resources now in place, I know she’s set to deliver some incredible events — and I’ll be first in line to attend.”
