How is it being an academic who tries not to fly for work #NoFly working in evolutionary biology and bioinformatics in central Europe this year?
#SMBE2024 @officialSMBE, #Evol2024 (which includes @eseb), and #ismb2024 in N. America.
#EuroEvoDevo and #ECCB2024 in Finland, which can be reached from Switzerland without flying, but it takes 2 days each way.
We can do better! We need conference planning to take into account travel, and avoid peripheral locations.

I'm so done with the field of #evodevo. They can go on sequencing the shit out of everything and CRISPRing all life to pieces. As long as they are not interested in good theory or new ideas, I am no longer interested in them.

And I'll just ask this question again: what does it say about a field & its society if you can run the exact same symposia after postponing your conference for two years?

Btw: seniors got a free pass, young researchers had to reapply for contributed presentations.
