Emigrant Gap

Emigrant Gap is a gap in the Sierras just past Donner Summit. It got it's name during the gold rush days where emigrants lowered their wagons by rope down the mountain to cross the American and Bear River drainage.
Now days it's just a beautiful spot along highway 80.
This area has easy access as there is a scenic turnoff right on the Highway with plenty of parking.

One rainy day last year I was feeling stressed to my limit so I went on a one night solo camping trip to one of my favorite spots in the Sierras. I didn’t see or speak to another soul the whole time, and the rain, birds, wind in the trees, and the burbling stream were a balm for my soul.
