One of these #Congolese #ambassadors to #Rome was Antonio Emanuel Ne Vunda.

We do not know much about him – a fate he shares with most #emdiplomats. He was a close relative to the Congolese king. In 1604 he left #Congo and set off for Rome where he arrived in 1608. Unfortunately, he died only two days after his arrival of illness. (6/6)

#Introduction: #Panda meets #Platypus! @emdiplomacy has moved mastodon instance, therefore, we post our introduction again:
This account is all about #earlymodern #diplomacy. We toot about the ups and downs of editing a #handbook on #emdiplomacy & give insights into the #LifeOfTheEditors. We introduce our great authors, reveil #emdiplomacysSecrets, present #emdiplomacysFaces & discuss #emdiplomacysSources.
We share reading recommendations & #emdiplomacy related research. We love to connect (with) #researchers & histodons from the field of #emdiplomacy. And there will also be some #Pandas, of course.

Identifying #emdiplomacysFaces is sometimes tricky, identifying their family members even more so. Perhaps some of you can help in this case regarding the wife of Joachim de Wicquefort.

Ok #histodons nerdy question: researching the diplomat Joachim de Wicquefort, whose wife is variously named as Anna Bosschaert, Anna de Leu de Wilhem or Anna van Erp, depending on who you ask. Anyone knows who she really was?

#Emdiplomats usually were not only diplomats. Their careers were manifold. As todays' #emdiplomacysFaces James Stanhope shows, they were ministers, soldiers, parlamentarians. Acting as a diplomat was often just one aspect of their careers. How these different elements and experiences influenced each other needs more research.

Died #OTD 1721, James Stanhope, earl of Stanhope. The soldier, diplomat and politician was a key figure in George I's cabinet. Dr Stuart Handley looked at Stanhope's career on the #HistParl blog. Read it here 👇 http://ow.ly/wCuG50Ds7xg @[email protected] #18thCentury #GeorgeI #Parliament
