While I was waiting on TI to finally release the BQ41Z90 battery IC, they came out with a completely different chip which could also work for me. Only 6 uA in sleep, but it achieves that by using low-side fets (which in turn avoid the idle consumption of a charge pump), and it doesn't have a fuel gauge algorithm, or it's a very naive one.

I don't like low-side fets, mostly because it breaks the I2C. But there are ways around that.

In a continued malicious attempt to tease me personally, the Texas Instruments BQ41Z90 eval board will be stocked by Mouser and Digikey. This despite the IC itself continuing to be stuck in "preview" for 18 months. It's the ideal chip for my LiFePO4 battery bank project since it has (what claims to be) a very sophisticated state-of-charge algorithm. LiFePO4 is a notoriously hard chemistry to fuel-gauge accurately so I am still skeptical.
