While I was waiting on TI to finally release the BQ41Z90 battery IC, they came out with a completely different chip which could also work for me. Only 6 uA in sleep, but it achieves that by using low-side fets (which in turn avoid the idle consumption of a charge pump), and it doesn't have a fuel gauge algorithm, or it's a very naive one.
I don't like low-side fets, mostly because it breaks the I2C. But there are ways around that.
