plutonianif you ever have the pleasure of being in the upper peninsula of michigan, i HIGHLY recommend visiting whitefish point and the great lakes shipwreck museum there, as well as the soo locks (watch a freighter come through!!) and the museum ship valley camp. and take a dip in the lake. commune with the sturgeon and the ghosts.

we still don't know exactly what sunk the Mighty Fitz. we know that the ss anderson was hit by some abnormally huge waves around 7pm. there's a theory that a series of three huge waves (the three sisters) finally overwhelmed and sank the ship.
she rests in two pieces at the bottom of the lake. the wreck is considered a gravesite and exploration is severely restricted. all 29 men are still down there, resting in the frigid bosum of the lake.
