It's always worth stopping to investigate anything that seems out of place. In this case, it was a red sandstone block integrated into a grey stone wall which I passed in Drymen on my way up to Loch Lomond yesterday. It turned out to be an old mile stone, with 22 carved on one side and 12 on the the other. These are the distances to Stirling and Dumbarton, respectively, as shown on the mid-19th century map on the left (where it is marked as M.S.).
The rather beautiful Drymen Parish Church to the north of Glasgow. The central section was built in the 1770s, while the porch on the left and the stair tower on the right were added in the late 19th Century.

Day 12 - Time and space
This is the village of Drymen in Scotland, located near the south eastern end of Loch Lomond. The maps show how the village has expanded over the last hundred years.

I took a trip out to the Pots of Gartness today to look for migrating salmon leaping over the waterfalls there. I didn't see any, but it did give me the chance to photograph one of my favourite trees.
Buchanan Castle in Drymen, near Glasgow. This large Scots Baronial mansion was designed by William Burn and was built for the 4th Duke of Montrose in the 1850s. It served as a military hospital in World War Two and Rudolf Hess was briefly treated at it after his plane crashed in Scotland in 1941. The roof was removed in the 1950s and while it's B-Listed, it's been decaying ever since.
