Two bad outings in a row . . . the blown save versus the #Angels giving up 4 runs to allow them a walk off win 4-5 the other day and another bad outing giving up 2 runs and leaving 2 on with only 1 out vs the #Brewers last night that Doval had to come in to clean up & to get the save 2-4.
Whatever Walker's problem is, if he doesn't fix it quick, I don't think Melvin will have any choice but to start using #Doval as the closer again now that he seems to be back in his 2023 form.
This would not be a "controversial" decision IMO.
Of course, Doval could easily go on a walk-about again too but it only makes sense to use the pitcher who is pitching best &, at the moment, that's Doval.
It is official: the SF Giants have a closer controversy. Sound the alarms, batten down the hatches, and prepare for choppy waters. After Ryan Walker's second straight bad outing, it now appears Camilo Doval is the best closer option.
It's always an adventure when #Doval comes in to pitch.

The #SFGiants gave it a go in the bottom of the 9th but lose to the #Reds 2-0 because #Doval couldn't' throw a strike the 1st 2 batters he faced in the top of the 8th & because the Reds' starter #Greene threw 8 2/3rd shutout innings before he ran into trouble & had to be relieved
But, despite the loss, the Giants remain in 1st place in the NL West tied w/the #Padres at 8-2 -- 1/2 game ahead of the #Dodgers at 9-3.

#Doval's poor performance yesterday -- #BlownSave -- 1 run, 2 hits & 2 walks, -- is why I don't think he deserves to be considered a "closer" -- co-closer or not.
Despite his better performance during the #PreSeason, he just looked like the 2024 version of himself in yesterday's game.
Personally, I do not think that he has the consistency, reliability, accuracy & grit to be a closer.
At best he's a decent mid/late inning reliever & the Giants should just use him for that and find another pitcher to back up #Walker as the closer.

The SF Giants are rolling right now to start the 2025 campaign. A big part of their success has been the strength of their bullpen. However, manager Bob Melvin may have to rethink his 9th inning co-closer experiment.
#Doval gives up a run & the game is tied 4-4 with 2 out & the bases loaded in the top of the 9th. And, it ain't over yet!π€¦
Update: Doval gets a popup to end the inning but, I don't care what they say, it just looks like the same old Doval to me.
He's "good" pitcher buts stop using him as a closer. He doesn't have the consistency, the reliability, the precision & or the grit for that role!!!π
Just noticed that #Doval got the save in today's 6-3 win over the #Reds on 11 pitches (8 strikes) w/1 K & a liner & grounder for outs.
Thought #Walker was the Giants' designated closer after Doval lost that job last year but it looks like #Melivn is giving #Doval another chance to prove if he's entitled to that role again or not.
If Doval succeeds that will put Walker back in the role of middle/late inning reliever but I really liked Walker better as the closer. π€·ββοΈ
