I didn't use onion because I had a plan for the leftover scraps - homemade dog food!

I added organ meat & butternut squash from last fall that had started to go soft and let it cook through.

I used the food processor to blend it all down because 1) I was worried about the little bones and 2) I wanted to hide the organ meat because my dog is a picky diva.

I got about a month's worth of wet food from scraps that otherwise would have gone to waste!

The writers on this have been avoiding the obvious phrase: "eating your own dog food".

I wonder why.

Jan 20, 2026 @ 20:00 (!) Good evening family & friends❣️ Still cold, wind chill is -0°F; now it's been a half-century since I've had a math class, but I don't recall that -0 was a thing at that time. Not sure when that changed...maybe one of the times they re-re-re-classified Pluto? (The planet, not the dog...) Anyway it is warm in here and that's what matters to me! Pete is on a local net in his ham shack, just fed the dogs so they are set for the night, and I will take care of my PoiBoiz shortly too. I slept most of the afternoon which wasn't a surprise. Made dog food (beef, pork, fish, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, green beans, blueberries, plus the usual flax meal and bone meal and parsley) for Maisie when I got up, it is cooling now and ready to go in the fridge when it's done. Oh the exciting life I lead hahaha! I will likely take the rest of the evening and watch TV or something, oh how I miss the days when I could read books!! I used to be an avid (x1000) reader for most of my life. I can read short amounts, especially if I can follow an audio book while reading the print version, without having to start over every few minutes after the words were misfiled (🧠🗄️) but it isn't the same as those delightful marathon book sessions! Reading was always so much more satisfactory than watching TV! Or is it just me...? OK, so I'm rambling, it's time to get going, and I will see you in the morning. Sleep well - good night❣️🙇‍♀️🥱🛌🌛

Sometimes you don’t overthink things until life makes you. A small #rescue puppy did that for me, and #dogfood was the unexpected lesson...
