#dmr update: built a cable and
got it to work... using the Windows CPS for #opengd77 .

#qdmr does not work, however. It (I guess) works with a stock #dm1701 and with other radios running opengd77... but not on DM1701 running opengd77.

Wish I'd known that before I bought the radio. Good thing I saved a windows partition on an old laptop. #hamradio

Update2: success... sort of. Parts finally arrived so I wired up a cable and was able to upload a codeplug to the #dm1701 using the (windows) #opengd77 CPS.

#qdmr and #dmrconf still give errors, though.

@dm3mat I'll update my bug report probably tomorrow.

Update: found that you can't use a K1 cable (like for a UV-K5) with the #dm1701 because it has a USB/serial chip and the DM-1701 has its own USB interface. The correct cable is just a direct connection to USB.

Also, the Tytera programming cable won't work unless you swap the D+ and D- lines (nice, Baofeng)

I'm going to try and DIY a cable and if it works I'll update. @dm3mat #dmr #hamradio

Has anyone had luck using #qdmr or #dmrconf with a #baofeng #dm1701 running #opengd77 ? It wants to think my radio is a DM-1801 no matter what I do, and won't connect. I'd sure like to program it using #linux . Any hints? #dmr #hamradio #hamr

I currently own two of the early cheap DMR radios, the RD-5R (DMR software in a Baofeng form factor) and the GD-77 from Radioddity. Both are fine for talking to a local hot spot and I also use the GD-77 as a 2m/70cm FM analog HT.

The lowest cost DMR rig I have seen that's still in stock is the Baofeng DM-1701.

Are there any other low end DMR radios worth mentioning?

(Yes, I know better radios are generally worth it for lots of reasons.)
