Does anyone else find it weird that people are putting the Twitter verified bluecheck as a custom emoji into their display names?

Like, is it a joke?

Is it a fuck-you to the new owner

Is it because they were verified before?

It's strange the amount of dissonance it brings up when I see it.

If you added it to your displayname, I'm curious: why and what for?

Paralithodes is a genus of king crabs, from 'para'+'lithode' i.e "resembling a stone." I wanted a break from using my name, & being like a stone to me reflects on both positive & negative qualities I see in myself.

it's me, James but streamlined & efficient for Modern Consumers...I refuse to remove my precious 🦀 from the early days when many ppl put checkmark-parody emoji in their display names. Carcified is carcinization (the process of becoming crab-like)+verified.

My first name (ok, middle, but it's the only name I've ever used irl).

I'm usually anummabrooke on social media, and that was my original Masto handle. But I found that I liked just being a more stripped-down version of my self here, aside from my career stuff and related braaaaanding.

"Fritillaria" is new for mastodon. "Fritillary" is my favorite word. A fritillary is a flower in the lily family (genus "Fritillaria"-- aha!), and also a type of butterfly. These words have a magical, whimsical sound-- the Great Spangled Fritillary (butterfly) must surely be the name of a fairy monarch. "Fritillus" (which sounds awkwardly like something fritillaries might do for <ahem> intimate pleasure) is Latin for "chessboard", and refers to the checkered pattern.

#displayname It's my name. I expect I should update the emoji bit, though, because now that we've moved the order is 👵🏻 🌲 🏖 .

This 👵🏻 kind of misses incidentally driving within sight of the water while running daily errands. We're still within an hour of salt water, really not bad considering it took at least half an hour to get from the old place to actually barefoot-in-surf, but still.
